Council of State

Timi Daramola, Governor

As the Governor, Timi leads the Maryland Student Legislature, guiding statewide planning and representing students on the Board of Directors. He oversees meetings, manage staff, and make final decisions on legislation passed by the General Assembly.
Ryan Cave, Lt. Governor

As the Lieutenant Governor, Ryan supports the Governor and helps lead MSL’s growth. He works on delegation development, assists with major events such as Fall and Annual Session, and ensures smooth communication across the organization.
Justin Carlson, Attorney General

As the Attorney General, Justin serves as MSL’s chief legal advisor. He ensures that all legislation submitted by delegations follows the Constitution, helps manage elections, supplies delegations with parliamentary resources, and manages bill organization and readability.
Ozhaan Shah, Secretary of State

As the Secretary of State, Ozhaan keeps MSL organized and on record. He maintains records, meeting minutes, delegation charters, and alumni certifications while helping coordinate elections and communications. During sessions, he keeps time and tracks the bill docket in the House of Delegates.
Audrey Grutzik, Comptroller

As the Comptroller, Audrey manages MSL’s finances. She helps enforce the budget, process reimbursements, and collect event fees. Audrey works closely with the Treasurer and the board to keep everything running efficiently and transparently.
Vardaan Srivastava, President of the Senate

As the Senate President, Vardaan is the Senate counterpart to the Speaker. Vardaan leads the Senate chamber during debate and ensures that proceedings run smoothly and fairly. He guides discussion on legislation, recognizes senators to speak and ensures correct procedure is followed during debates.
Galen Richardson, Speaker of the Assembly

As the Speaker, Galen presides over the Assembly as a unicameral unit, and the House of Delegates as a bicameral unit. Galen appoints committee chairs, and assigns bills to them during committee time. While presiding over debate in the House, Galen ensures that correct debate procedures are followed and that every delegate has a fair chance to speak.

Appointees

Vic Kovtun, Chief of Staff

As the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Vic assists with delegation outreach, event logistics, and direct counsel to the Governor. Vic coordinates and plans meetings and agendas for the Council of State, while ensuring that they are well prepared for any and everything that they may encounter.
William Lantry, Political Liaison

William Lantry is MSL's first Political Liaison. He works to strengthen the organization's connections with public officials and policymakers across the state. Working closely with Governor Daramola, he works to coordinate guest speakers, build relationships with elected officials, and connect members with opportunities in government and public service.
Alejandra Arce-Lastra, Deputy Attorney General

As the Deputy Attorney General, Alejandra assists in reviewing legislation and ensuring that all bills follow MSL’s constitutional guidelines. She helps maintain order during sessions as Parliamentarian of the Senate and supports committees in the legislative process.
Aysu Sahinci, Deputy Secretary of State

As the Deputy Secretary of State, Aysu supports the Secretary of State in keeping MSL organized and running smoothly. They help manage records, this website, and delegation information, and assists with coordinating communications with delegations behind the scenes. During sessions, Aysu acts as the Clerk of the Senate, and helps track timing and the bill docket within the Senate to ensure everything stays on schedule.
Shaan Alam, Deputy Comptroller

As the first Deputy Comptroller, Shaan assists the Comptroller with managing delegation invoices and connecting with the MSL Treasurer of the Board in order to fund our events. Shaan also coordinates with delegations to help them fundraise in order to allow them to attend our events.
